When Pia told us, “The food was AMAZING, we still dream about it to this day,” we smiled, because we know how often food becomes one of the deepest memories of a wedding in Italy.
For us, food is never secondary. It is one of the central ways a wedding becomes generous, joyful, and unforgettable. It brings people together. It creates rhythm. It gives shape to the celebration. It is one of the most immediate expressions of care we can offer our couples and their guests.
For international weddings especially, this matters. A destination wedding in Italy should not only look Italian. It should taste Italian, feel Italian, and remain deeply connected to the surrounding land.
We also pay close attention to customised menus, food intolerances, and seasonal dishes. More and more couples are looking for dynamic culinary experiences, with different moments across the weekend that make the gastronomic journey varied, personal, and engaging.
What We Want to Convey Through Food
Our Chef Leonardo Perisse once answered this question beautifully. When asked what we want to convey to our couples, he said:
“We want to convey serenity and trust. Couples should feel supported and free to experience their special day without worries. Through food, we convey Italian hospitality, elegance, and attention to detail, transforming their story into a personalized culinary experience.”
This captures our philosophy perfectly. Creating the menu together allows us to shape something truly authentic. The couple shares their tastes, memories, preferences, and expectations, and from there a custom-tailored culinary experience begins to take form. This dialogue makes the result more personal for them, and more meaningful for their guests.
The Culinary Journey of Pia and Erik’s Wedding Weekend
On the first day, their guests were welcomed with a wine and cheese tasting, followed by an informal welcome dinner. The next day, the wedding dinner unfolded as a true Italian celebration of abundance, rhythm, and conviviality.
Their menu featured:
First course
Champagne and Norcia truffle risotto
Second course
Gianti with porcini mushrooms, butter, sage, and Parmigiano Reggiano
Main course
Veal carré with demi-glace
Side dishes
Oven-baked potatoes and fresh green salad
The wine selection also reflected the territory, with Grechetto and Sangiovese-Merlot, wines that speak directly to the character of Central Italy and help international guests discover the flavours of the region through the table.
After dinner, the celebration continued with the wedding cake: a mille-feuille with Chantilly cream and berries, followed by a dessert buffet with a cake corner, ice cream corner, candy bar, cigars, spirits, open bar, and party.
For many Scandinavian guests, this is one of the most fascinating aspects of an Italian wedding menu. It is not built around speed or minimalism, but around generosity, progression, pleasure, and the joy of staying together at the table. Food becomes not only part of the celebration, but one of the ways the celebration itself is remembered.
Why Trust Matters in Wedding Planning
What is equally important to say, however, is that a wedding such as Pia and Erik’s is also the result of the trust a couple places in the planning process.
At SPAO, we offer an in-house wedding planning and coordination service that allows every event to be organised with consistency, attention, and calm from beginning to end. This internal coordination is one of the reasons many couples feel supported from the earliest stages of planning. It helps transform complexity into clarity, and it allows every detail — from logistics to hospitality, from design to timings — to come together in a coherent and seamless way.
From the very beginning of our work together, Pia and Erik were open, positive, and deeply collaborative. They trusted our recommendations, including the vendors we suggested, and that trust created a wonderful energy around the entire process. It gave all of us enthusiasm, momentum, and the sense that we were building something together.
When this kind of relationship is created between a couple and the team supporting them, the result is not only a well-organised event. It is a wedding that feels harmonious from within.
